Articulation Withdrawal Selective Mutism
Definition
Selective mutism is a persistent failure to speak in specific settings despite speech in others, commonly associated with anxiety. It can resemble V-under/M-centered when language content remains usable and output drops contextually. It differs from Articulation Freeze because Freeze additionally requires Mental over-activity, not because one term is chronic and the other acute; it also differs from chosen silence and language-access loss.
