Belonging Withdrawal Selective Narrowing

cascade-variant.belonging-withdrawal-selective-narrowingclinical register

Definition

Selective narrowing — holding voluntarily and selectively narrows its group membership, pruning peripheral ties and broad community roles while keeping its closest emotional bonds intact and even deepened. Distinct from Subjective Aloneness and Loss-Triggered Retreat, both distressing and involving emotional disconnection, and from Prolonged Retreat's sealed-in societal withdrawal: here the narrowing is chosen, non-distressing, and developmentally normative — an adaptive selectivity, not loss, isolation, or pathology.
