Manifestation Fixation Tension Discharge

cascade-variant.manifestation-fixation-tension-dischargeclinical register

Definition

Psychomotor agitation: fidgeting, pacing, and restless drive bleed off a dysphoric tension the body cannot otherwise settle — the agitated pole of depressive motor disturbance. Distinct from Restless Drive, whose over-drive is rule-governed and achievement-toned, and from Mild Restless, whose motor restlessness is a neutral neurodevelopmental trait. Here the engine is acute affective distress seeking discharge, ego-dystonic rather than appetitive or constitutional. Where this agitation co-occurs with depressed mood, screen for a mixed state — that presentation is carried by Manifestation Flood Mixed Agitation and carries elevated suicide risk.
