Vision Depletion Demoralized Collapse
Definition
Demoralization syndrome: helplessness, hopelessness, and subjective incompetence with loss of meaning and purpose in serious medical illness and other irreversible adversity. Phenomenologically distinct from depression by preserved present-moment hedonic capacity and intact cognition with a closed-future appraisal — which is what locates it at depletion (0,-): attending remains operative while the meaning domain has drained. Distinct from sibling Meaning Aridity by event/context-anchored drain with hopelessness-helplessness affect (VE propagation primary) rather than gradual felt-content erosion under standing commitments, and by a relational-narrative repair pathway. Distinct from Meaning Burnout (Vision Collapse) by intact attentional engagement and non-occupational etiology.
