Acuity Spin
Definition
Focus is over-active while Mental is under-active at Acuity: attention keeps working hard while there is little usable thought under it to work on. Thought is thin rather than gone — an off-center state — and the loop that results is active, not empty. Where the over-attending reaches further it goes where attention itself can reach: onto feeling, onto other people, onto the body, where there is signal to track even when thought will not supply it. That reach describes a profile that can be present, not a spread the origin requires. The presentations differ in kind — threat-driven scanning of faces, cues, and bodily signal; repetitive self-focused brooding; verbal worry that runs ahead of what has happened; and intrusive replay or covert checking that will not stop. What tends to give relief is the same across them: contact with one's own feeling as something owned rather than tracked, and plain grounded action in the body — supports rather than requirements, and no fixed order of recovery.
