Definition

Open is over-active while Emotional is under-active at Affectivity: reception keeps reaching and stays wide while one's own feeling remains thin or hard to access. It often reaches toward emotionally charged material — conversations, other people's distress, whatever carries affect — but what comes back stays faint or brief. That boundary matters: if outside affect actually landed as abundant feeling, this would no longer be the pattern, because felt emotion would no longer be under-active. Where the reaching extends it follows reception's own reach — toward other people, toward the body, toward the unfamiliar — and the other ways of handling feeling can thin alongside it. Those are conditions that can be present rather than a spread the origin requires. The presentations differ in kind: repeated sampling of charged material that never quite lands, over-attunement to another's suffering while one's own affect stays collapsed, and a performed empathy standing in for feeling that was never integrated. Nothing in the origin establishes motive, ownership, or an order of recovery.
