compensation
Intellectualizing
Definition
Mental compensates for Emotional. Feeling flattens while the mind builds elaborate systems around it. Emotionally charged material — grief, attraction, anger, awe, fear — is analyzed, theorized, and cited from clinical distance, while the affect itself remains unfelt. Cognition substitutes for feeling.
