compensation
Somatizing
Definition
Physical compensates for Emotional. Affect cannot register or move while the body absorbs what feeling will not. Tension, fatigue, pain, agitation, and digestive distress become the dominant register — the body carries the unprocessed feeling, whatever its valence. Soma substitutes for affect.
