Definition

Caregiver and clinician compassion fatigue: receptive openness has gone under-active while distress, arousal, or other affect stays above a usable range. Empathic flatness or simple occupational depletion without E-over belongs closer to Withdrawal, Depletion, or Collapse. Secondary traumatic stress and burnout are separate clinical determinations.
